Our purpose

So That Others May Play.

Ethan Shinn Miller was a Blake High School Senior who cared deeply for his family and friends and yet left us too soon. He was a talented student who was bright, diligent, inquisitive, and creative.  He was also a good athlete who ran cross country and swam for the Blake Bengals and loved mountain biking.

A journal entry revealed the degree to which he saw people as family: “Family is extremely important to me. They're the people that will always be there for you. Without family, love would deteriorate. With family, you are never alone. You will always have someone...I treat people as if they were my family, meaning I extend family beyond biological grounds...I will always do things in the best means for my family. Family comes first...always, family comes first.”

Ethan viewed his participation as a trumpet player in the Jazz and Symphonic Bands as an extension of his family life, and music was one of his passions he was considering pursuing at college. He believed that all people, no matter their gender, race, sexual orientation, socio-economic status or religious affiliation, should have equal access to life’s opportunities.

Ethan Shinn Miller STOMP, Inc was established as a tribute to Ethan’s deep love of people and music and is seeded with monies set aside for his college tuition and supplemented by donations by friends and family. So That Others May Play is more than a slogan—it is a hopeful response to personal tragedy.
